Digital strategies for structured and architected materials design

چکیده
Designing materials with tailored structural or functional properties is a fundamental goal of science and engineering. A vast research activity currently devoted to achieving metamaterials superior optimized functionalities by carefully fine tuning both the microstructure geometry material. Here, we discuss impact digital technologies in this field providing fast cost effective tools explore large array possibilities for metamaterials. We report on recent progress obtained combining numerical simulations, optimization techniques, artificial intelligence, additive manufacturing methods highlight promising lines. The exploration space possible material microstructures geometries reminiscent process biological evolution which traits are explored selected according their fitness. Biomimetic have long profited from adapting features systems design new structures. Combining biomimetic approaches simulation high throughput fabrication characterization techniques may provide step change evolutionary development materials.
